Body Mastery: Moving in a Way That Actually Lasts
June 2026
June is here, and with it comes the pressure to have the "perfect summer body." Let's talk about something more useful: building a relationship with movement that you can sustain for the rest of your life — not just until Labor Day.
1.Movement vs. Exercise
There's a difference between movement and exercise, and it matters. Exercise is structured, scheduled, and often tied to a goal. Movement is everything else — the walk to the mailbox, the stretch between meetings, the dance in the kitchen while dinner cooks.
Both count. Both matter. And for most people, adding more movement to daily life is far more sustainable than adding more exercise.
Try this
Track your movement for one day — not with an app, just with awareness. Notice when you're sitting for long stretches and where you could naturally add five minutes of movement.
Reflection question
Do I think of movement as something I have to schedule, or something that's woven into my day?
2.Finding What You Actually Enjoy
The best workout is the one you'll actually do. That sounds obvious, but so many people are grinding through routines they hate because they think they're supposed to. If you dread it, you won't sustain it.
Give yourself permission to experiment. Try something new this month — a dance class, a swim, a long hike, a yoga video at home. You're not looking for the most efficient workout. You're looking for the one that makes you want to come back.
Reflection question
When was the last time I moved my body in a way that felt genuinely enjoyable, not obligatory?
3.Listening to Your Body
Body mastery isn't about pushing through pain. It's about learning the difference between productive discomfort and signals worth heeding. It's about knowing when to push and when to rest. It's about building a relationship with your body based on respect, not punishment.
Your body is communicating with you constantly. This month, practice listening.
Try this
Before your next workout or movement session, check in with your body. Rate your energy 1–10. Adjust the intensity accordingly. Notice how this changes your experience.
Reflection question
Am I moving my body in a way that honors it, or in a way that punishes it?
This Month's Takeaway
Body mastery is a lifelong practice, not a six-week program. Find movement you enjoy. Add more of it to your daily life. Listen to what your body is telling you. That's it. That's the whole plan.
What kind of movement are you going to try this month? I'm curious — hit reply and let me know.
Your body is not a problem to be solved. It's a partner to be understood.
